On the mechanical properties and crack pattern analysis of a strain-hardening cement-based composite reinforced by natural sisal fibers

Besides the strength enhancement and strain improvement (strain-hardening behavior), use of natural fibers as reinforcement in cement-based matrices can also be highlighted an economical eco-friendly alternative for future construction industry. In present work, composites reinforced by sisal were produced tested under direct tensile loading. The Portland cement was partially replaced pozzolans (metakaolin – MK fly ash FA), aiming to produce a calcium hydroxide-free matrix ensure durability fibers. used 5% volume fraction (in mass), divided into three layers. mechanical properties composite plates compared other literature results demonstrated compatible with recent research. crack pattern analyzed Digital Image Correlation (DIC) better understanding their failure mechanisms. material presented increase after first formation, marked multiple cracking partners from this point. Finally, comparison between (LVDTs) indirect methods measurement done minor DIC, approximately 84% those obtained LVDTs.
